The Ph.D. programs at Shiv Nadar University’s School of Natural Sciences (SoNS) is a combination of pedagogy in the classroom with mentored research supervision along with freedom and encouragement to work on diverse and eclectic areas of research. The University provides a dynamic, discovery-driven intellectual environment that attracts exceptional postgraduate students and trains them for leadership positions in academia, industry, government, research laboratories, and non-profit organizations. We admitted our first students to the Ph.D. in Mathematics in 2014 and currently have twelve registered Ph.D. scholars. They are carrying out research in diverse fields such as graph theory, complex networks, algebraic number theory, Lie algebras, harmonic analysis, matrix analysis, disease modeling and machine learning. This reflects the research interests of our faculty, which cover wide areas of pure and applied mathematics.
The Ph.D. program in chemistry at SNU consists of a rigorous regimen of both broad-based and in-depth course work, development of project proposals, research and literature seminars, in-depth dissertation research under the supervision of a research advisor, and a public thesis defense.

Pursuing Ph.D. in Life Sciences / Biotechnology and Ph.D. in Bioinformatics provides its graduate scholars a discovery-driven intellectual environment with the aim to develop them as independent researchers.
Graduate scholars are also trained in academic and research publishing processes as well as honed in their teaching abilities so they can be prepared for leadership positions in academic and research-focused organizations.
It is mandatory for students to go through a pre-Ph.D. coursework of 1 year. Shiv Nadar University also provides its own fellowship to Ph. D. students.
The research in the department is from wide areas of life sciences including parasitic diseases (malaria, Leishmania), virology, bacteria, cancer biology, stress biology, vascular biology, neurobiology and bioinformatics.
