In the true spirit of a liberal arts education that is responsive to the challenges of 21st century India, the Master’s programs at the School of Humanities and Social Sciences (SoHSS) at Shiv Nadar University encompass and integrate perspectives and practices from across the humanities, social sciences, and the creative fields. The School seeks to create a learner-centric environment, where students and faculty work as peers in the creation of new knowledge. Among the graduate programs offered are M.Sc. in Economics, MA in English, M.Des. in Design, M.Sc. in Water Science and Policy, MFA in Film and Television, and MFA in Fine Arts.
The two-year Master’s program in economics is a top tier post-graduate program in economics in India. The students admitted to the program will receive training within a nurturing environment, supported by faculty members who are working at the forefront of research in their respective fields. Areas of research for current faculty members include Development Economics, Environmental Economics, Macroeconomics, Labour Economics, Economic Growth, Public Economics, Game Theory, Network Theory, Industrial Organization, and Political Economy.
The MFA is a two-year (4 semester) studio-based and research-centered program. In special cases recommended by the mentors, the program can be extended to an additional semester. An additional semester may also be necessary for students with a diploma or equivalent qualification. A student must complete a minimum of 48 credit hours in residence at the Department.
The Department of Communication at the Shiv Nadar University would like to announce that admissions to their program, MFA in Film & Television are now open for the academic year 2020-21. This professional program emphasizes all aspects of media production, with a focus on Direction. Designed to provide students with a broad-based learning platform in all filmmaking crafts, including Direction, Cinematography, Editing, Screenwriting, Sound Design and Producing. A Masters Programme in Water Science and Policy is being launched by C-PACT, anchored in the School of Humanities and Social Sciences (SoHSS), as part of its multi-disciplinary research on knowledge, governance, and policy reforms on water. This will aim to be a first-of-its-kind programme globally. The aim of this program is to create a critical mass of water professionals with a historically and socially contextualized, multi-disciplinary perspective and understanding of water, who can help carry forward India's on-going paradigm shift in water management
Department of Design grounded in the philosophy of liberal education intends to offer programs that provide students with holistic transdisciplinary education along with specialization in their specific areas of interest. In line with this philosophy, the department offers a Master of Design (M. Des.) program that prepares students with knowledge, skills, and attitude relevant to the 21st Century problems, needs, and applications.
The M.A.. in English program is awarded on the successful completion of 16 courses including an individually supervised thesis in the final semester. The department combines various forms of pedagogy including lectures, seminars, and intensive individual supervision with the aim of enabling the student to discover his or her research interests. Admission to the M.A.. comes with substantial funding in the form of teaching and research assistantships and is based on a competitive entrance test.
