Ph.D. in Electronics & Communication Engineering

The Department of Electrical Engineering at Shiv Nadar University invites applications for admissions to its Ph.D. program.

Research Areas:

  • Deep learning (Convolutional Neural Networks, Recurrent Neural Networks), Deep Reinforcement Learning.
  • VLSI Circuit Reliability, Microelectronics, and Semiconductor Device Modelling, Device modelling and simulation, FPGA based Verilog design systems on VLSI, MEMS Devices and Technologies
  • Organic and Flexible Electronics: Simulation and Fabrication of Organic Solar Cells and Perovskite solar cells, Study of charge transport in Organic Semiconducting materials and devices.
  • Wireless Mobile Communication and Networks, Internet of Things (IoT), Audio /Video Compression using Machine Learning, Wireless Communication, Massive MIMO fundamentals, mmWave Communication aspects and Signal Processing.
  • Microwave devices, Terahertz Antennas, Terahertz Generation, Terahertz Devices, and Vehicular Antennas. Active and passive microwave components, Active and passive antenna and beam steering array. Electromagnetic research, Traveling Wave Tubes, Wave guides and Antennas
  • Power Electronics converters and their applications, HV Devices & Smart Power VLSI
  • Photovoltaic (PV) power system, Distributed generation and power quality, Power system stability

The student is required to work in an area aligned with the current research interests of the faculty in the department. For multi-disciplinary research work, approval of the Departmental Research Committee is required.

Admission to the Programme:

Eligibility

First Division in M.E. / M. Tech. or equivalent in relevant discipline from a recognized Technical Institute or University

OR

M.S./M.Sc. students are also eligible under special circumstances. They must have exceptionally good academic credentials, preferably with a good valid GATE/CSIR/UGC-NET score, and strong aptitude for research.

Selection process

Shortlisted candidates will be intimated well in advance to appear for written tests and interviews. The written tests and interviews will be conducted at the Shiv Nadar University (SNU) campus in Gautam Buddha Nagar District (near Greater Noida), U.P. .

Applicants waiting for the qualifying examination results are also eligible to apply.

Selection process

Eligibility criteria mentioned above are the minimum and applications not meeting the same will be summarily rejected. Short-listed candidates will be required to demonstrate their knowledge through an on-site written test and/or interview, to be held in July, 2020. Selections will be based on past academic record, written examination and/or interview performance.
Please note that not all candidates meeting the minimum eligibility criteria may be shortlisted. The shortlisting will be done based on application material received (including the academic qualification, statement of purpose and reference letters). The shortlisted candidates will be entitled for re-imbursement of 3AC train fare (to and fro) against actual ticket for appearing in the selection process. For outstation candidates, one day accommodation in SNU campus may be arranged at nominal cost. Transport may also be arranged from few locations (metro stations).

Financial Assistantship

All full-time Ph.D. students admitted into the program shall receive a doctoral research and teaching assistantship consisting of 100% tuition-fee waiver and 70% hostel-fee waiver. The student shall also receive a monthly stipend of ₹50,000 for the first two years, and ₹55,000 for the next two years subject to bench-marked performance. The asistantship is subject to satisfactory performance in the program evaluated continuously and compliance with all University regulations.

Application Fees

  • All applicants to the Ph.D. program are required to pay a non-refundable application fee of ₹ 1,200.00 (one thousand two hundred only) by credit/debit card.

Please note that the University reserves the right to accept or reject any application based on departmental screening criteria, hence all applications may not be shortlisted for written examination and/or interview. No requests for refund of the application fee shall be entertained under any circumstance.
